چکیده

The goal of this paper is to provide a perspective on the current status and future directions for active flow-control technology with particular emphasis on oscillatory control. This is not a comprehensive review of the literature; rather, certain issues that are often neglected in studies are highlighted showing their importance or impact on the reported observations and targeted outcomes. Feasible routes using flow instability as an efficiency enhancement tool are discussed as an emerging means to explain the physical phenomena of active flowcontrol and as a tool for control law design and development. Traditional and more recent theoretical approaches to control design are discussed and recommendations are made relevant to numerical complications on the route to design oscillatory flow-control systems. A generic flow control process is put forward and illustrated using experimental examples. ∗Distribution Statement A: Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited. †Senior Member of Technical Staff, Optimization and Uncertainty Estimation ‡Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000 §Program Officer, Undersea Weapons & Countermeasures ¶Senior Lecturer, Department of Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer, school of Mechanical Engineering, also visiting scientist, National Institute of Aeronautics, Hampton, VA, USA, Tel. +972 (3) 6405310; fax: +972 (3) 6407334; Email: [email protected] ‖Ramón y Cajal Research Fellow; also visiting Professor, College of Aeronautics, Cranfield University, UK.

Simultaneous Control of Active and Reactive Powers of Vanadium Redox Flow Battery Systems in Flexible Microgrids

This paper discusses the control of flexible microgrids, consisting of a Redox Flow Batteries (RFB) and a new power conditioning system (PCS) for the RFB. Considering the importance of energy storage, this study is essential in power systems that are developed cautiously. RFB is connected to power system by a DC/DC or DC/AC converter to produce a DC voltage. It is very important that this conve...

Active control vibration of circular and rectangular plate with Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) Method

Natural vibration analysis of plates represents an important issue in engineering applications. In this paper, a new and simplify method for vibration analysis of circular and rectangular plates is presented. The design of an effective robust controller, which consistently attenuates transverse vibration of the plate caused by an external disturbance force, is given. The dynamics of the plate i...

Galloping and VIV control of square-section cylinder utilizing direct opposing smart control force

An adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC) is adopted to reduce the 2D flow-induced vibration of an elastically supported square-section cylinder, free to oscillate in stream-wise andtransverse directions in both lock-in and galloping regions. The AFSMC strategy consists of a fuzzy logic inference system intended to follow a sliding-mode controller (SMC), and a robust control syste...

Control of a Fluidized Bed Polyethylene Reactor

In present paper, dynamic behavior and control of a fluidized bed reactor for polyethylene production has been considered. A double active sites model for Ziegler-Natta catalysts is used for simulation of polymerization reaction. Hydrodynamic behavior of the bed is modeled using a two phase model including bubble and emulsion phases in which bubble phase has plug flow pattern with different...
